COUNTY COUNCIL OFFICE REFURBISHMENT WILL HELP BOOST KETTERING ECONOMY
Northamptonshire County Council staff will move into the newly refurbished William Knibb Centre in Kettering this week – bringing a boost to the town centre economy.
About 300 staff will be based at the complex in Montagu Street after a number were relocated from Grafton Court in the town and Tithe Barn in Wellingborough.
The £4million expansion of the building has created a modern working environment which includes collaborative spaces and video conferencing capability.
As well as off-street parking, staff will also have access to pool cars and car sharing to help reduce congestion.
The William Knibb Centre refurbishment will facilitate the closure of Tithe Barn and Grafton Court, which will help realise revenue savings of about £0.5 million a year.
Cllr Ian Morris, county council cabinet member for transport, highways, environment and public protection, said: “I’m delighted that the building is ready after this substantial refurbishment project, proving a very pleasant contemporary working environment for our staff.
“Bringing hundreds of staff into Kettering town centre also helps local businesses, which is great for the local economy.
“But there is also another benefit in that this allows us to consolidate our assets, which helps bring revenue savings.”
Cllr Mark Dearing, portfolio holder for town centres at Kettering Borough Council said: “We really welcome this positive move by the county council – it provides more footfall for the town centre and will be a welcome boost to local shops and businesses.”

I don’t quite follow the logic here maybe all of the shops in Kettering are sandwich shops.
